Indian economy under pressure as Trump announces 50% Tariff
U.S. President Donald Trump has made a shocking announcement, declaring a 50% tariff on Indian goods. The move is being called a major blow to India’s already struggling economy, with Indian news channel India Today calling it an “economic atomic attack.”
According to global media reports, the 50% tariff was announced within the last 24 hours and is already making waves in international markets.
Trump is reportedly unhappy with India’s continued oil trade with Russia. In response, the U.S. has imposed an additional 25% tariff on Indian imports, bringing the total to 75% on some goods. The White House confirmed that Trump has signed an executive order enforcing this decision, which takes effect immediately.
Trump also criticized India in a social media post, calling it one of the highest-tariff countries in the world. He accused India of imposing non-tariff trade barriers that harm American interests.
He also raised concerns over India’s defense and energy deals with Russia, stating that India is one of the largest buyers of Russian oil—something he claims contradicts global sanctions.
Trump warned that more penalties may follow, including financial fines alongside the tariffs.
Just a day earlier, Trump had warned that new import taxes would be announced within 24 hours—and he followed through.
