Pakistan makes History: Hinglaj Mata Temple declared as Global Tourism Site

In a groundbreaking move that showcases Pakistan’s growing commitment to religious inclusion and cultural respect, the Balochistan government has officially declared the historic Hinglaj Mata Temple a Global Tourism Site. Located deep within the serene Hingol National Park in Lasbela, the centuries-old temple is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites for Hindus, not just in Pakistan, but across South Asia.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, with strong support from Senator Dinesh Kumar, has taken a bold step by elevating a minority religious site to global status for the first time in Pakistan’s history. It’s not just symbolic—Balochistan’s 2025 budget includes special development funds for restoring the temple, improving access roads, upgrading sanitation, enhancing security, and providing comfortable facilities for pilgrims.

Each year, over 250,000 pilgrims visit Hinglaj Mata, including thousands from India, the Gulf region, and various parts of Pakistan. With this international recognition, officials expect a significant rise in pilgrim numbers, potentially boosting Balochistan’s tourism sector by 30% over the next five years.

“This is more than a temple. It’s a message that Balochistan—and Pakistan—stands for peace, pluralism, and progress,” said CM Bugti, calling the temple a reflection of Pakistan’s diverse spiritual heritage. Senator Kumar echoed this sentiment, describing the decision as a milestone for the Hindu community and a gesture of true trust and respect toward minorities.

There are over 50 minority religious and cultural heritage sites in Balochistan, many of which could benefit from similar efforts in the future. By promoting spiritual tourism, the province is not only building bridges between communities but also uplifting the local economy and rebranding itself as a safe, welcoming destination.

In the age of soft diplomacy, this move sends a strong message globally: Pakistan is a land where all faiths are valued, and where ancient traditions can find new life through recognition, restoration, and respect.

So whether you’re a devotee, a history lover, or a traveler looking for meaning, Lasbela is ready to welcome the world.
