Sukkur: Multiple high-tech surveillance and speed cameras were stolen from the Sukkur-Multan section of the M5 Motorway, spanning nearly 200 kilometers.
The stolen items include advanced cameras, solar panels, street lights, and supporting poles, with the most affected area being the Ghotki district near Jahan Khan Jungle, where security concerns are particularly acute.
In addition to the camera equipment, police security posts along the highway have been vandalized, with roofs, lights, and reflectors stripped away, leaving many posts abandoned and non-operational.
Service area street lights are also non-functional, and recent installations of solar reflectors have sustained approximately 90% damage, further impairing visibility and security.
As a result of the theft and equipment failure, motorway police have reverted to traditional manual methods for traffic management, placing roadside speed cameras to enforce fines.
Authorities and local officials are under mounting pressure to restore security and surveillance on this vital federal project, highlighting serious concerns over mismanagement and security lapses along the M5 Motorway.
