New evidence continues to show that heart attacks are becoming more common among younger people compared to previous generations. A recent study has now revealed a noticeable increase in death rates from heart attacks among young adults.
The research, published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, found that deaths from heart attacks among people under the age of 55 increased by 1.2 percent between 2011 and 2022.
The study analyzed data of nearly 10 million individuals aged 18 to 54 who were hospitalized due to heart attacks in the United States during the 2011–2022 period.
According to the findings, many people believe that heart attack deaths mostly occur in older adults. However, the results show that young individuals, particularly women, face a real and growing risk.
The study also found a 1.2 percent increase in deaths among people who were hospitalized for a first-time heart attack.
Researchers noted that women admitted to hospitals for their first heart attack had a higher risk of death compared to men.
The experts explained that the risk factors for heart attacks are similar for both men and women. These include low income, kidney disease, smoking, obesity, high blood pressure, and high blood sugar levels.
They added that heart disease increases the risk of death from heart attacks in people under 55, but further research is needed to confirm and better understand these findings.
