Google Chrome browser issue warning, update your Chrome now to protect it from hackers

Google has released a new emergency update for Chrome after discovering a serious security flaw in its system. This flaw, found in the V8 engine (which runs JavaScript and WebAssembly code), could allow hackers to steal your data or even install malware or ransomware on your device.

The flaw has been identified as “CVE-2025-5554”, and it has been given a severity rating of “8.1 out of 10”, making it a high-risk threat. According to Google, hackers have already exploited this vulnerability to target users.

This marks the “second emergency update within a month”, and the “fourth time this year” that Google has released a patch to fix major vulnerabilities in Chrome.

What should you do?

Immediately update your Google Chrome browser. Here’s how:

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Click the three dots in the top right corner.
  3. Go to Settings.
  4. Click About Chrome (bottom left side).
  5. Chrome will automatically check for updates.
  6. If an update is available, it will begin automatically.
  7. Once the update is complete, click Relaunch to restart the browser.

Why this matters:

Chrome is used by over 50–60% of internet users worldwide. That means any security flaw could potentially impact millions of people. To protect your data and stay safe online, make sure your Chrome is always up to date.
