Good News for Travellers to Gilgit-Baltistan and Skardu, roads reopened

The National Highway Authority (NHA) has successfully restored the road infrastructure across northern Pakistan, including the Karakoram Highway (KKH) and key routes in Gilgit-Baltistan, following damage caused by recent heavy rainfall.

According to an official statement issued on Wednesday, the restoration work was carried out on emergency orders using all available resources to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow across affected areas.

Federal Secretary for Communications, Ali Sher Mehsud, personally inspected the repaired routes by driving through Chilas, Mansehra, Babusar Top, Khunjerab Pass, and further down to Skardu via the 144-kilometre Jaglot-Skardu Highway.

In a video message, he assured travellers that roads are now safe, and traffic is moving smoothly in both directions.

He emphasized that despite the scale of destruction, NHA teams completed the task in record time, thanks to their round-the-clock efforts and commitment. A detailed report on the completed work has been submitted to the Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan.

Ali Sher Mehsud noted that a coordinated response, guided by clear directives from the Minister, was crucial in managing the crisis and ensuring quick results. He added that work on long-term safety enhancements and infrastructure resilience is ongoing.

Meanwhile, over 90% of rehabilitation efforts had already been completed two days earlier, with major link roads, including the N-15 route through Kaghan and Naran, reopened for traffic.
