Geneva to host UNHRC debate today on Israel’s recent military offensive against Qatar

UN Human Rights Council to hold urgent debate on Israel’s Doha strike

GENEVA : The United Nations Human Rights Council will hold an urgent debate today to “discuss the recent military aggression carried out by the State of Israel against the State of Qatar on 9 September 2025”.

The urgent debate will be held today, 16 September 2025, commencing  at 11h00 (GMT+2) in the Assembly Hall at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. The meeting is open to the media and will be webcast live on webtv.un.org in the six official languages of the UN.

The urgent debate is being convened per two official requests submitted Wednesday, 10 September 2025 by Pakistan on behalf of member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and by Kuwait on behalf of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.

The request came as leaders of Arab and Islamic states were meeting in Doha on Monday, where they were expected to warn that Israel’s attack on Qatar and other “hostile acts” threaten coexistence and efforts to normalize ties in the region, according to a draft resolution of that gathering.

The programme of work of the ongoing 60th regular session of the Human Rights Council will be adjusted to include this urgent debate. This urgent debate does not require signatories or formal notifications as is the case for special sessions.

This will be the 10th urgent debate of the Human Rights Council since its creation in 2006.
