Multan: The funeral prayers for three sisters and a niece who drowned in a flash flood in Zhob, Balochistan, have been performed.
The incident occurred yesterday when six members of the same family had come to Zhob for a picnic, and suddenly their vehicle was swept away by the floodwaters. As a result, four women drowned, while two individuals were rescued.
After the incident, the bodies of the deceased women arrived at their homes, and a wave of grief swept through the families. The funeral prayers for the deceased women were held in Multan, attended by a large number of local residents.
In a chilling coincidence, the Swat River disaster claimed at least 12 lives when 18 members of two families were swept away during a picnic near the riverbank, mirroring a similar tragic event.
According to the eyewitnesses, the victims pleaded for aid for over 90 minutes, but no rescue came to save them in the nick of time. The victims were from Sialkot and had been enjoying breakfast when the floodwaters rose unpredictably.
It is also reported that out of 85 people trapped in the Swat River, 58 have been rescued alive. Additionally, an amount of 1.5 million rupees has been announced for each of the bereaved families of the victims.
