France tops FIFA rankings for first time since 2018

France has returned to the number one position in the FIFA World Rankings for the first time since 2018, marking a significant milestone in international football.

In the latest rankings, Spain moved up to second place, while Argentina dropped to third. Portugal climbed one spot to fifth, whereas Brazil slipped to sixth position.

Among notable movers in the top 50, Turkey, Ivory Coast, Sweden, and Tunisia showed marked improvement. Vietnam recorded the biggest jump, climbing nine places, while Nepal and Bhutan also improved their standings.

Out of the 48 teams that have qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2026, 37 are ranked within the top 50. However, notable teams such as Italy, Denmark, and Nigeria despite being in the top 30—have not qualified for the tournament.

Meanwhile, Pakistan dropped to 202nd position in the rankings following a defeat against Myanmar.
