
Pakistan’s prominent economist and former Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, Dr Shamshad Akhtar, has passed away.
According to reports, Dr Akhtar died today due to cardiac arrest. She was currently serving as Chairperson of the Board of the Pakistan Stock Exchange and Sui Southern Gas Company.
A spokesperson for the Pakistan Stock Exchange said that Dr Shamshad Akhtar had performed her professional duties at the Pakistan Stock Exchange as recently as Friday.
Dr Shamshad Akhtar was regarded as one of Pakistan’s leading economists. In addition to serving as Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, she remained associated with several national and international financial institutions and played a significant role in shaping the country’s economic policies.
Her passing has caused deep grief in economic and business circles, with various institutions and prominent personalities paying tribute to her valuable services to the nation.
