Flavor Flav invites US women’s hockey team to celebrate in Las Vegas amid Trump phone call snub
The women’s team turned down an invitation to Trump’s State of the Union address due to scheduling conflicts
Flavor Flav has invited the United States women’s hockey team to Las Vegas to celebrate their Olympic gold medal victory following their decision to decline an invitation to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address.
The women secured gold against Canada at the 2026 Milan Cortina Games. Shortly after, Trump invited the men’s hockey team to attend his address, adding during a phone call, “I must tell you, we’re going to have to bring the women’s team, you do know that.” He also joked, “I do believe I probably would be impeached,” if he did not extend the invitation to them as well.
Amid the online backlash to Trump’s remark and the men’s laughter, the women’s team declined, citing scheduling conflicts.
USA Hockey said, “We are sincerely grateful for the invitation extended to our gold medal-winning U.S. Women’s Hockey Team and deeply appreciate the recognition of their extraordinary achievement. Due to the timing and previously scheduled academic and professional commitments following the Games, the athletes are unable to participate. They were honored to be included and are grateful for the acknowledgment.”
Following the development, Flavor Flav, whose real name is Williams Jonathan Drayton Jr., shared an email sent on his behalf to USA Hockey. “I am reaching out on behalf of Flavor Flav. First, massive congratulations on the gold!! We saw the story about the men’s invite to the White House, and the not quite invite for the women’s team. Flav recently posted on social media an idea and invite for the women’s hockey team to Las Vegas for a real celebration.”

His earlier social media message promised to “do some nice dinners and shows and good times” and suggested inviting the US bobsled and skeleton teams, which won six medals.
Meanwhile, members of the men’s team travelled to Florida to begin their celebrations, with Jack Hughes saying, “We’re gonna celebrate for a few days.”
