Firefighting efforts under way to douse blaze at factory in Rawalpindi’s Rawat

RAWALPINDI: Rescue personnel were engaged in efforts to douse a large fire that engulfed a factory in Rawat Industrial Estate, according to officials.

Rescue 1122 said firefighting operations have been underway for the past three hours, adding that the building had an area of more than two kanals.

In an earlier statement, Rescue 1122 said 13 fire tenders and more than 45 rescue personnel were participating in the operation.

It said that the cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained.

In late January, a fire in a hotel in Lahore claimed at least three lives; however, the Rescue 1122 officials managed to safely evacuate 275 occupants from the building.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had also instructed deputy commissioners to ensure the installation of fire hydrants in all the commercial and high-rise buildings across the province.
