Earthquake jolts Dushanbe, no casualties reported

Tajikistan records above-average seismic activity in 2025

Dushanbe, Tajikistan: Tremors recently rattled the Tajik capital, sending residents rushing outdoors in fear.

The Seismological Center reported the earthquake measured 4.8 on the Richter scale with a shallow depth of 10 kilometers.

Fortunately, no casualties or significant property damage have been reported, although authorities continue to advise residents to exercise caution.

This quake marks the 72nd seismic event in Tajikistan in 2025, surpassing the usual annual average of around 57, signaling heightened tectonic activity in the region.

Experts note that Tajikistan and its surrounding 300-kilometer radius typically experience over 300 earthquakes annually, averaging 20–25 per month.

The year’s current activity underscores the country’s vulnerability as a naturally earthquake-prone zone.
