DG ISPR refutes rumors of Asim Munir’s Presidential bid

ISLAMABAD: Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has dismissed as unfounded the speculation regarding Field Marshal Asim Munir becoming the next President of Pakistan.

In an interview with British magazine The Economist, DG ISPR clarified that such claims have no basis in fact and should not be given credence.

Responding to a question about Pakistan’s possible reaction to any Indian military aggression, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif stated, “This time, we will begin from the east — the response will start with a deep strike inside India.”

His remarks underscore Pakistan’s firm stance on regional security and its readiness to respond to any provocation with decisive action.

Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry stated that India must understand it can be hit anywhere, at any time.

Earlier, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, in a statement on social media, said: “We know who is behind the campaign targeting the President, Prime Minister, and Army Chief. We also know why it is being done and who stands to benefit from it.”

He said that there was no talk of the President’s resignation, nor was there any such thought, nor is there anything that the Army Chief wants to take over as the presidency.

On the other hand, Secretary General of the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarian Nayyar Bukhari also denied speculation against President Zardari, saying that President Zardari is the elected president of this country, there is no truth in speculation against him, those who make speculation do not understand the constitution and the law.
