BEIJING: People may have heard of identical twins or unrelated individuals who closely resemble one another, but a married couple in China has left many astonished due to their striking similarity in appearance.
Around the world, there are many people whose facial features resemble others. Identical twins often look alike, but in China, a husband and wife have gained attention because they look so similar that strangers struggle to tell who is the husband and who is the wife.
According to foreign media reports, the couple—He Xiansheng (husband) and Liang Saiyu (wife)—run a traditional herbal medicine shop in China’s Guangdong province. The family-owned business had been facing financial losses in recent months.
Locals who saw the couple together often assumed they were twin siblings. When told that they were actually husband and wife, people were left genuinely surprised.
After realizing the public’s fascination with their resemblance, Liang convinced her husband to use social media to promote their business. The couple began posting short promotional videos on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok.
The videos quickly went viral across the country, drawing massive attention and helping revive their struggling business.
Speaking about their resemblance, Liang said that when they first met, they did not notice how similar they looked. “However, after spending several years together, we gradually realized that we look almost the same,” she said.
