Bangladesh’s newly-elected MPs sworn in

Bangladesh’s newly elected Members of Parliament were sworn in on Tuesday, marking the beginning of a new political chapter after a landmark national election that brought the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to power.

The oath-taking ceremony for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad was held at the parliament complex in Dhaka. The event commenced with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, reflecting the country’s traditions and cultural heritage. Bangladesh’s Chief Election Commissioner, AMM Nasir Uddin, administered the oath to the newly elected lawmakers.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from several regional and Muslim-majority countries, underscoring international interest in the transition. The swearing-in formally concludes 18 months of interim government rule, which had been tasked with overseeing the long-awaited national elections.

According to a gazette notification published by the Election Commission on Friday, the BNP won 209 out of 297 seats.

With the new parliament now in place, the country looks ahead to a renewed phase of governance, carrying expectations of stability, reform, and progress under its freshly elected leadership.
