PM hails Mojtaba Khamenei’s appointment as Iran’s supreme leader

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has written a letter to Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, expressing condolences over the martyrdom of Ali Khamenei.

In his message, the prime minister conveyed the condolences and prayers of the people of Pakistan to the people of Iran and the wider Muslim world following the tragic loss.

According to the letter, the Pakistani nation is deeply saddened by the martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei, and Pakistan stands in solidarity with Iran’s leadership and its people during this difficult time.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated Mojtaba Khamenei on assuming the responsibilities of Supreme Leader, expressing hope that his leadership will guide Iran towards peace, stability, dignity, and prosperity in the coming years.

The prime minister emphasized that relations between Pakistan and Iran are rooted in shared faith, history, culture, and language.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continue working closely with Iran and to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest for the benefit of both brotherly nations.

Shehbaz Sharif also prayed for Mojtaba Khamenei’s health and success, and for peace, stability, and prosperity for the people of Iran.

It is worth noting that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was reportedly martyred in recent US and Israeli attacks in Iran, along with other members of his family. Following his death, Mojtaba Khamenei was selected as the new Supreme Leader two days ago.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump and Israeli leadership have reportedly warned that Iran’s new leadership could also be targeted in the ongoing conflict.
