Jim Carrey confronts conspiracy claims after César Awards appearance in Paris

Following his appearance at the 51st César Awards, online conspiracy theories claimed Carrey was cloned

Jim Carrey was confronted by a member of the public following his appearance at the 51st César Awards in Paris, as online conspiracy theories questioned whether he was “the real” actor.

In one video, the Hollywood star stopped to sign autographs for fans when one individual shouted, “Mr. Jim Carrey, every fake news is saying you are not Jim Carrey. That’s true or not? Please, give answer.” Carrey appeared unfazed and continued signing without directly responding.

Speculation intensified after photos and videos from the ceremony circulated widely on social media. While the event was intended to recognise his contribution to film, much of the online discussion focused on his appearance.

Some users commented that his face looked “puffy” or “unrecognizable”, suggesting possible cosmetic procedures. Others pointed to what they claimed was a change in his eye colour from brown to green. A number of posts went further, alleging that the actor had been cloned, replaced or was wearing a hyper-realistic mask.

A small minority shared more extreme claims, asserting without evidence that the real Carrey had been murdered and substituted. Comments ranged from confusion to concern, with some users stating that his mannerisms seemed “off” and others saying he appeared like “a completely different person.”

Despite the online reaction, Carrey appeared composed and confident during the Paris ceremony and while greeting fans outside the venue.

In recent years, the actor has reduced his Hollywood output but has indicated he may return for future projects, including a potential role in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which is slated for release in 2027.

There is no evidence to support claims that Carrey has been replaced or cloned, and the theories remain unsubstantiated.
