The first official trailer for Toy Story 5 has been released, introducing a new antagonist and an unexpected visual change that has drawn widespread attention online.
While the upcoming Disney and Pixar sequel presents a new villain in the form of Lilypad, a frog-shaped tablet voiced by Greta Lee, it is Woody’s newly revealed bald spot that has generated the strongest reaction across social media platforms.
The trailer opens with Bonnie officiating the wedding of Forky and a plastic knife bride before receiving Lilypad, a device that quickly captures her attention. As Bonnie becomes increasingly absorbed by the tablet, the toys express concern, and her parents debate screen time rules.
Approximately halfway through the trailer, Woody reappears, climbing through the window and hanging up his hat. A glare reflects off the top of his head, revealing a noticeable bald patch. Trixie, voiced by Kristen Schaal, responds, “Someone needs a brown marker.”
Forky, voiced by Tony Hale, adds, “She thinks you’re old, because you’re bald, Woody,” after Lilypad questions whether Woody is an “oldie”.
The moment has prompted a wave of commentary online. One fan account wrote, “They really gave Woody a bald spot in ‘Toy Story 5’ 😭 What do y’all think of his new look ⁉️” Another user posted, “First look at Woody’s balding head in ‘Toy Story 5.’ Out here looking like my ex.”
Beyond the online reaction, expectations for the film remain high. Toy Story 4 surpassed $1 billion at the global box office in 2019 and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
Toy Story 5 is scheduled for theatrical release on June 19.
