CTD arrests top terrorist commander in Bannu

During initial interrogation, suspect confesses to orchestrating at least nine major terrorist operations

BANNU:

In a significant breakthrough for counter-terrorism efforts in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Bannu Region arrested a highly wanted terrorist commander during an intelligence-based operation in People’s Bazaar, Bannu.

The suspect, identified as Osama, a native of Bannu, is known by organizational aliases “Danial” and “Baghi.” Authorities describe him as an active commander in the newly formed militant outfit ‘Ittihad al-Mujahideen Pakistan’ (IMP), established through collaboration between Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and another group referred to as TTG.

During initial interrogation, Osama confessed to orchestrating at least nine major terrorist operations. These include the December 2025 attack on Assistant Commissioner Miran Shah Shah Wali Khan, in which the official was targeted, his vehicle set ablaze, and he was killed. The arrested militant also admitted involvement in the abduction and brutal murder of former Bannu SHO Abid Wazir.

Further revelations link him to the kidnappings and subsequent killings of three prominent leaders from the Lakki Marwat Peace Committee, Ataullah, Farmanullah, and Waliullah, who were working for public welfare and regional peace. Osama confessed to abducting two Frontier Corps (FC) personnel and police officers, with one FC member still reportedly in their custody.

Additional confessions include his role in the murder of polio officer Malik Ishaq and his security guard, as well as conducting reconnaissance for sensitive institutions and supplying covert photographs and information on police personnel to accomplices.

Osama also disclosed that he and his associates set up illegal checkpoints in People’s Bazaar and surrounding areas to harass and intimidate civilians.
