At least 53 people, including two children, have died after a migrant boat capsized off the northwestern coast of Libya, officials said.
According to foreign media reports, the incident occurred north of the coastal city of Zuwara, where dozens of migrants were attempting to reach Europe by sea.
Several people drowned when the boat overturned, while a number of passengers are still reported missing.
Rescue teams launched search and rescue operations immediately after the accident. Local authorities and aid organizations are continuing efforts to locate missing individuals and transfer survivors to safe locations.
Officials said the final death toll and number of missing persons are yet to be confirmed, while investigations are underway to determine further details of the incident and identify the victims.
