Kaia Gerber is opening up about how mom Cindy Crawford taught her body positivity.
The 24-year-old actress looked back at her childhood, where she grew up seeing her mom’s modeling career milestones, including bold photoshoots, which shaped her idea of body confidence being a female.
“They were, to me, artistic. It wasn’t vulgar; it wasn’t objectification,” Gerber told Harper’s Bazaar.
For the Palm Royale actress, it was “a gift to grow up in a house that was without shame for the female body.”
Gerber, who began her modeling career as a teen, further revealed that her mother maintained a minimal involvement in her career in order to let the Bottoms alum pave her own path in the industry.
“She doesn’t give out advice unless you ask,” Gerber shared. “But if you ask, get ready, because she’ll be very honest in ways that, sometimes, it’s hard to hear.
Gerber added of her mom, “She’s usually right, which is infuriating, but she’s also very willing to let me make a mistake that she made 30 years ago.”
Crawford, who is also mom to son Presley, whom she shares with husband Rande Gerber, once opened up about her bold photoshoot in an interview with Town & Country back in 2018.
“I’ve done nude photos, lots. The only ones I regretted were the ones that I kind of got talked into,” she said at the time. “I don’t want my children to ever look back and think, ‘Gosh, I wish I hadn’t done that.’ I want to empower them to just say, ‘I’m outta here.’”
