Amy Madigan has earned her second Oscar nomination in more than 40 years for her role in Weapons.
In a new chat with PEOPLE Magazine, the veteran actress admitted she was still in shock shortly after the nominations for this year’s Academy Awards were announced on Thursday.
“I’m just kind of stunned by the whole journey that I’ve been on,” Madigan reflected, expressing awe at receiving recognition nearly four decades into her career.
“This is just kind of another piece of it that I was not expecting, but I’m just very happy and gratified. It’s really a reflection on the film Weapons and how people are responding to it. Nothing feels better than that,” she added.
Madigan also shared a behind-the-scenes moment from the nomination process. She revealed that the Weapons publicists had advised her to “keep her phone on” in case a nomination came through.
“So I was woken up in a very unusual, surreal, pleasant way,” she told the publication before conclusion.
Previously, she said of the character’s impact while accepting her score at Critics Choice Awards.
“I get makeup tutorials and paintings. I even got one weird thing about how she’s a “s** icon,’ which I didn’t go too deep into that one.”
