Mount Etna’s northeastern crater has lit up winter skies with a renewed burst of Strombolian activity on December 27,2025.

The visuals showed,huge plumes of ash and smoke filmed erupting from Mount Etna, Sicily, as skiers used the slopes below, reports Euro News.

Scientists at the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia informed that volcanic activity at the site, which frequently erupts, had intensified, with craters continuously emitting ash.

In response to the volcanic activity, scientists issued a red Volcano Observatory Notice for Aviation, its highest level,though authorities informed flights would continue to operate normally at a nearby airport unless ashfall increased.

The eruptions, visible even from nearby ski slopes, have given tourists and locals a rare nighttime display and left them surprised.

As reported by media, at 12:45 a.m. (local time) on Saturday, a 2.4-magnitude earthquake struck the Etna area at a depth of 32 kilometers, marking another sign of the volcano’s restless state.

Experts say this phase of activity is not unusual for Etna and remains under close observation.

According to local media no casualties or injuries reported after the volcanic activity and the enjoyed witnessing the mesmerizing, breathtaking view at Mount Etna, recorded as a dreamy scenic beauty in the sky.
