How to remove gel or acrylic nails safely at home

Removing gel or acrylic nails at home can seem tricky, but with the right tools and techniques, it can be done safely without damaging your natural nails. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you remove them effectively.

1. Gather Your Supplies

You will need: acetone nail polish remover, cotton balls or pads, aluminum foil, a nail file, a cuticle stick, a small bowl (optional), and moisturizer or cuticle oil.

2. File the Top Layer

Use a nail file to gently buff the shiny top coat of your gel or acrylic nails. This helps the acetone penetrate more effectively. Be careful not to file too deeply to avoid damaging your natural nail.

3. Soak Cotton in Acetone

Soak cotton balls or pads in pure acetone. Place a soaked cotton ball on each nail and wrap it tightly with a small piece of aluminum foil. This creates a warm, enclosed space that helps soften the nail enhancements.

4. Wait Patiently

Leave the foil wraps on for 15–20 minutes for gel nails and 20–30 minutes for acrylics. Check one nail first to see if the product has softened.

5. Gently Remove the Nails

Use a cuticle stick to gently push off the softened gel or acrylic. Avoid forcing or scraping, as this can damage your natural nails. If needed, re-soak and repeat the process.

6. Buff and Moisturize

After all nails are removed, lightly buff your natural nails to smooth any rough edges. Finish by applying cuticle oil or moisturizer to restore hydration.

Tips for Healthy Nails:

-Avoid peeling or picking at nails.

-Take a break between manicures to let your nails breathe.

-Always use acetone in a well-ventilated area.

With patience and care, removing gel or acrylic nails at home can be safe and gentle, keeping your natural nails healthy and strong.
