SEVENTEEN’s Woozi faces controversy during military enlistment after army executive’s wedding request

Woozi reportedly recruited a popular ballad singer, who performed at the wedding free of charge

SEVENTEEN member Woozi has become the subject of public discussion following reports that an executive at an army training centre asked him to arrange a singer for a wedding ceremony while he was undergoing military training.

According to industry sources on December 23, Woozi, whose real name is Lee Ji Hoon and who is currently serving as a trainee, was approached by an executive with a request to cast a celebratory singer for the official’s wedding.

The Seoul Shimbun, which first reported the matter, stated, “The executive asked Woozi to introduce a singer to celebrate at his wedding. Woozi had no personal relationship with the executive.”

Reports claim that Woozi successfully recruited a well-known ballad singer, who reportedly performed at the wedding free of charge. At the time of the request, Woozi’s specific place of service had not yet been determined. He is now serving as an assistant at the Army Training Centre’s boot camp and is currently assigned to the same educational college as the executive involved.

In response to the controversy, the Army Training Centre issued a statement saying, “It was done for Woo ji’s personal favor. There is no illegal or violation of regulations,” adding that it does not bear responsibility for the matter. Despite this clarification, debate continues, with many questioning the appropriateness of a military official making such a request to a trainee.

Woozi enlisted on September 15 and said at the time, “I’ll be back healthy. Thank you to the fans and members,” as he shared his thoughts on beginning his service. He is scheduled to be discharged on March 14, 2027.
