According to official reports, the Brown University shooting suspect was found dead after a six-day multi-state manhunt.
The official authorities informed that the suspected gunman, who killed 2 and wounded 9 others at Brown University, has been found dead in a New Hampshire storage facility in Salem, where he had rented a unit, reports BBC.
They identified the suspect as Claudio Neves Valente, a 48-year-old Portuguese national who studied at the university in Providence, Rhode Island, for almost 25 years.
Brown University President Christina Paxson said that Valente was enrolled at the Ivy League school from the autumn of 2000 to spring 2001, and was studying for a PhD in physics.
According to Christina, “he had no current active affiliation to Brown University.”

Providence police chief Oscar Perez said video evidence and tips from the public led investigators to a car-rental location where they found the suspect’s name and matched him to their person of interest.
As reported by the police officials, former Brown University student Claudio Neves Valente was found dead on Thursday, December 18, 2025, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Providence police chief, Oscar Perez, said at a news conference, “as far as investigators know, the suspect acted alone.”
“He took his own life tonight,” Perez said at a press conference, where he identified Valente and described the chain of events that had led law enforcement to the storage facility.
Rhode Island Attorney General Peter said Valente was found dead with a bag and two firearms.
He said that “the evidence in a car nearby matched the scene of the shooting at Brown University in Providence.”
Peter informed reporters that a person with information about the suspected shooter played a key role in finding him after a 6-day-long manhunt.
After officials publicized a photo of the suspect about 24 hours ago, an individual “came forward to Providence police officers and said he had information about who that person was and that he had information that could help with this case.”
The information provided led authorities to a vehicle that helped them find the person.

Neronha explained, this information “led us to the photographs of that individual renting the car, which matched the clothing of our shooter here in Providence, which matched the satchel.”
Officials said they also believe Valente killed a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor two days after the 13 December shooting at Brown.
The US attorney in Massachusetts, Leah Foley, said that Neves Valente killed MIT physics professor Nuno FG Loureiro at his home on Monday, December 15, 2025, just two days after the Brown University attack.
Additionally, the official authorities have deployed approximately 500 agents to assist local authorities in the investigation.
FBI Special Agent-in-Charge Ted Docks said, “Even though the suspect was found dead tonight, our work is not done and there are many questions that need to be answered.”
