The bromance of Billy Crystal and Rob Reiner spans nearly five decades. Over the years, the actor-director duo collaborated on several projects, including All in the Family, Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, and When Harry Met Sally, among others.
But this almost 50 years of friendship came to a shocking end when Rob and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were killed in their Brentwood home.
What was more appalling was that their youngest son, Nick Reiner, was arrested in connection with their murder. In light of this, the slain couple’s neighbour spotted Billy near the couple’s home, describing to ABC 7 that he “looked like he was about to cry.”
Rob and Billy’s friendship dated back to 1976, and at one point, the director revealed he had second thoughts about casting the latter in When Harry Met Sally because of their bond.
“Whenever you do something this personal, and you’re best friends, if it doesn’t work, it’s like, ‘Oy!’ ” he recalled.
“Finally, I said, ‘Aw, f— it; he’s perfect!’ The biggest laugh in any film I’ve ever done was a line Billy came up with: ‘I’ll have what she’s having.'”
