Big Bash League participation seen as key to adapting to Australian conditions

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has urged the national team management to avoid experimenting with the T20 squad ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
The tournament, set to take place from February 7 to March 8 in India and Sri Lanka, will feature 20 teams divided into four groups, with the top two from each group advancing to the Super Eight stage.
Pakistan will open their campaign against the Netherlands, while hosts and defending champions India will face the USA in Mumbai.
Speaking at an event in Karachi, Afridi said, “There is no need for further experimentation ahead of the series before the World Cup. The captain should continue with the players already selected in the squad.”
Afridi also highlighted the benefits of Pakistani players participating in the Big Bash League (BBL), saying it will help them adapt to Australian conditions.
Commenting on the Pakistan Super League (PSL), he added, “The PSL is our own brand, and with the addition of two new teams, more opportunities will open up for local players, marking a positive step for Pakistan cricket.”
Ahead of the World Cup, Pakistan will face Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series as part of their preparations.
