The first robotic surgery in Islamabad’s history was successfully performed at PIMS Hospital, where a female patient underwent an advanced operation using modern robotic technology.
The surgery was conducted with the help of a state-of-the-art ‘Tomai’ surgical robot, manufactured in China, with the participation of experts from the United Kingdom.
Director of Robotic Surgery Dr Mateen Sharif told the media that the mission is to introduce robotic surgery throughout Pakistan with government support. “Robotic surgery allows patients to recover faster and ensures more precise results,” he said.
PIMS Executive Director Dr Imran Sikandar added that many procedures are technically complex, while robotic assistance minimises patient discomfort.
Doctors from General Surgery and Urology departments also took part in the operation. Professor Shamim Khan, Professor Mateen Sharif, and Dr Javed Barki supervised the procedure, while Dr Atif Inam Shami, Dr Burhanul Haq, and Dr Khalid Saeed were part of the surgical team.
