Terror threat in Balochistan, Internet shut down across province including Quetta
In view of a possible terrorist threat, the provincial government of Balochistan has suspended internet services for three days across most parts of the province, including the capital city, Quetta.
Public transport services from Quetta to Punjab have also been halted for three days, while educational institutions within the cantonment area have been closed. However, schools and colleges in other parts of Quetta and across the province remain open.
The suspension of internet and transport services has caused significant difficulties for traders, students, and travelers.
The move comes after recent terrorist attacks one targeting Wana Cadet College and another outside the district courts in Islamabad. In response, the Balochistan government has tightened security measures across the province to prevent any potential attacks.
According to local reports, internet services in Quetta have been suspended unofficially, with limited connectivity in other districts. When contacted by Independent Urdu, provincial officials said that the media would be formally briefed on the situation soon.
The provincial government also issued a notification imposing a ban on passenger coaches and other forms of public transport traveling from Quetta to other provinces from November 12 to 14.
However, the notification was briefly withdrawn by the Secretary of Transport, Hayat Khan Kakar, before being reissued a few hours later.
The revised order reaffirmed the suspension of passenger transport from Quetta to Punjab via Loralai and to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa via Zhob and Dera Ismail Khan.
