Pakistan Agrees to Ceasefire on Afghan Taliban Request
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban have agreed to a 48-hour ceasefire starting from 6 p.m. today (Wednesday). The decision was made after several days of rising border tensions and came at the request of the Afghan Taliban.
According to the Foreign Office, both sides reached the agreement through mutual understanding to stop hostilities for 48 hours.
The purpose of the ceasefire is to create an opportunity to resolve ongoing issues peacefully through diplomatic talks. The statement confirmed that the decision was made with the consent of both Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban.
“During this period, both sides will make sincere efforts to find a positive solution to this complex but solvable issue through constructive talks,” the Foreign Office added.
Security sources reported that the Pakistan Army carried out effective operations today, destroying several hideouts, posts, and tanks belonging to the Afghan Taliban and Fitna al-Khawarij, along with their fighters.
According to the sources, the Pakistan Army gave a strong and decisive response to the aggression, after which the Afghan Taliban requested a ceasefire following heavy losses.
Officials said that the defeated Taliban are now spreading fake and misleading videos on social media to create confusion. The sources added that the Pakistan Army is fully prepared to give an even stronger response to any future attack from the Afghan Taliban or Fitna al-Khawarij.
In recent days, the Pakistan Army successfully repelled coordinated attacks launched by the Afghan Taliban and Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists in the Spin Boldak area of Chaman.
The attacks began early in the morning at several Pakistani positions, but the army responded quickly and effectively at four different points, forcing the attackers to retreat after suffering major casualties, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Wednesday.
