Veteran actor Mustafa Qureshi is recovering at home after fracturing his leg in a fall outside his Karachi residence early Monday morning. Doctors have advised a minimum of six weeks of complete rest.
The 85-year-old screen legend, who has starred in over 700 films, was on his usual morning walk after Fajar prayers when he tripped over a dug-up and damaged section of the road. The fall left him with a broken leg and minor injuries to his head, once again bringing attention to the dangerous condition of the city’s roads.
“I fell badly, hit my head, and broke my leg. Thank God my eye was saved,” Qureshi told reporters from his home.
With visible frustration, he added, “May Allah give wisdom to our leaders to fix these streets.”
As a result of the injury, Qureshi has been forced to cancel all upcoming engagements, including the launch of his new book.
The incident has sparked fresh outrage among Karachi residents, who are already frustrated with the city’s crumbling infrastructure. Qureshi’s accident serves as yet another reminder of the ongoing threat posed by poorly maintained roads, which continue to cause injuries and, in many cases, cost lives on a daily basis.
