KARACHI: Chief Operating Officer (CEO) of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC), Engineer Asadullah Khan, visited Nazimabad along with senior officials of the Pakistan Rangers to review the ongoing crackdown against water theft and to monitor measures for equitable water distribution across the metropolis.
The visit focused on evaluating the progress of operations targeting illegal water connections and organized theft networks that have long exacerbated Karachi’s water shortage.
President of SITE Association Ahmed Azeem and Saleem Barak also accompanied the delegation. The COO briefed the association’s representatives on the progress made so far and shared future plans to enhance monitoring, enforcement, and transparency within the system.
Speaking to the media, Engineer Asadullah Khan praised the Pakistan Rangers for their “key and exemplary” role in the campaign, acknowledging their coordination and effectiveness. He also lauded the performance of the KW&SC Anti-Theft Cell for its recent success in uncovering a large organized network involved in massive water theft.
“Water theft remains one of the major causes of the city’s shortage,” Khan stated. “Under the clear directives of Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, this illegal practice will not be tolerated under any circumstances.” He said that during recent joint operations, eight illegal water connections were dismantled, with strict legal action underway against those responsible.
Representatives of the SITE Association appreciated the joint efforts of the Rangers and KW&SC, terming the campaign a much-needed and positive step toward ensuring fair distribution of water among citizens.
Concluding his visit, Engineer Asadullah Khan reaffirmed the corporation’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and uninterrupted water supply for Karachi residents.
