Alec Baldwin and his younger brother Stephen were involved in a frightening car accident in East Hampton, New York, but the brothers are safe.
The 30 Rock star, 67, shared the news on Instagram on Oct. 13, reassuring fans that no one was hurt after he accidentally drove head-first into a tree.
“This morning, I was in a car accident,” Alec said in a video posted to his Instagram. “I’m fine.” He went on to explain that he was behind the wheel of his wife Hilaria Baldwin’s Range Rover when the crash happened.
According to Alec, a large garbage truck “the size of a whale” suddenly cut him off while he was driving through an East Hampton neighborhood.
“To avoid hitting him,” he said, “I hit a big fat tree and crushed my wife’s car. I crushed my wife’s car—I feel bad about that.”
Despite the damage, he assured everyone that, “That’s all fine, and I’m fine, and my brother’s fine. My wife’s car is pretty smashed up. Big tree, big fat tree.”
Alec expressed gratitude toward the East Hampton Police Department for their quick response and shared that he plans to head to California soon to reunite with Hilaria and their children, Carmen, 11, Rafael, 10, Leonardo, 8, Romeo, 7, Eduardo, 4, María Lucía, 4, and Ilaria, 2.
“I’m going to L.A. to see my family,” he said. “Can’t wait. Going out to California to gather my family together, spend a few days out there and then come home.”
He also took a moment to support his wife following her recent exit from Dancing With the Stars. “I’m still so proud of my wife, Hilaria. I love you more than anything, and I’m very proud of you,” Alec said warmly.
Stephen Baldwin, 59, also confirmed he’s doing well after the accident.
“Stephen is doing fine and is grateful no one was injured,” his representative told E! News, adding that both brothers “are safe and well.”
Photos and footage obtained by TMZ showed the Baldwins standing in the rain beside the damaged car, speaking with police officers at the scene.
The front of the Range Rover appeared heavily dented from the impact.
Later in the day, Stephen was seen in better spirits, posting an Instagram Story from All American Hamburger Drive In in Massapequa, New York, where he ordered a burger, fries, and a drink.
While the crash left Hilaria’s car badly damaged, both Alec and Stephen were unharmed, something they’re clearly grateful for after a very close call.
