Soulja Boy unveils Labubu chain, says he’s first rapper to own one

Soulja Boy has added another unusual milestone to his long list of “first rapper” claims by unveiling what he says is the first Labubu-inspired chain in hip hop. The rapper shared a video of himself displaying the iced-out jewellery, quickly drawing mixed reactions online.
The self-styled pioneer has previously insisted he was the first to launch a video game console, with the 2021 Soulja Boy Game, as well as the first to wear an iced-out G-Shock watch, upload a video to YouTube, and even offer to travel to space.
While many of these declarations have been met with scepticism, his latest claim may genuinely be unique.
Labubus, originally characters from a Nordic mythology-inspired picture book trilogy released in 2015, became vinyl collectibles in 2019 through Chinese manufacturer Pop Mart. However, Soulja Boy appears to be the first artist to turn the figures into jewellery.
The chain sparked both admiration for its originality and criticism for its perceived eccentricity.
The rapper’s latest stunt comes amid his ongoing attempts to get the attention of Ice Spice. After the Bronx star shared photos last month, Soulja Boy boldly tweeted, “All I need is 5 mins maybe 10 she gonna wanna marry a n***a.” She has yet to respond to his public advances.
