President Trump to meet with Putin in Alaska on Aug 15

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has announced that he will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15 in Alaska.

In a statement posted on social media, President Trump confirmed the date and venue for the meeting.

Earlier, speaking at the White House, Trump had indicated that he would be meeting the Russian leader soon.

According to a US newspaper, Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed ending the war in exchange for control over Eastern Ukraine. President Donald Trump, in response, said that the United States is exploring options to reclaim some territories and make certain adjustments.

It is worth noting that US President Donald Trump had warned of imposing new sanctions on Russia if a peace agreement on Ukraine was not reached by August 8.

Earlier, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly refused to meet US President Donald Trump in June because he feared running into Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, Bloomberg reported.

According to New Delhi reports, the American outlet said Modi worried that Trump might arrange an unexpected meeting between him and COAS Munir if both happened to be at the White House.

Indian officials were fine with Trump meeting Pakistan’s civilian leaders, but believed hosting Field Marshal Munir would hurt India’s narrative.
