Nicholas Alexander Chavez addresses being edited out of ‘IKWYDLS’

Nicholas Alexander Chavez on being cut from ‘IKWYDLS’

Nicholas Alexander Chavez is opening up about being cut from the recent I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel, and whether fans might see him in the franchise again.

The 25-year-old actor, who filmed scenes in Australia with co-star Lola Tung, revealed that the decision was just part of the filmmaking process.

“I mean, [director] Jennifer [Kaytin Robinson] is a good friend. She’s really, really cool people, and, you know, me and Lola had a really, really good time,” Chavez told Us Weekly at Variety’s Power of Young Hollywood Party on August 7.

“But, like, look — that’s filmmaking.”

Chavez and Tung were originally announced as part of the cast in November 2024, joining original stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., as well as new faces like Madelyn Cline and Jonah Hauer-King.

Their scenes were meant to serve as the movie’s opening sequence but didn’t make the final cut.

For Chavez, the memories from his time in Australia outweigh any disappointment. He recalled spending days with kangaroos, taking sunrise hot air balloon rides over the plains, and going cherry picking with his girlfriend, Victoria Abbott.

“That’s actually all I remember when I think about that movie,” he said with a laugh.

Fans began to suspect something was up when Chavez and Tung were absent from promotional materials. Director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson later explained that the decision was purely about the flow of the film.

“It was just one of those situations where it had nothing to do with Lola and Nicholas — they are both so fantastic. I really would love to work with them again,” she told PEOPLE in July.

“They did a fabulous job. But in the larger tapestry of the film, it just didn’t fit.”

While Chavez didn’t share details about his character, he hasn’t ruled out returning for another installment.

“You know, ask me tomorrow, I’ll have a million different answers for you,” he said. “The only thing that matters at this point in my career is just doing good material with people who I love and people who I believe in and who believe in me.”
