Trump seeks end to Gaza war, says State Department

US State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce speaks at a press briefing on August 5, 2025.

Washington: A spokesperson for the U.S. State Department said, that President Donald Trump is committed to seeing an end to the ongoing war in Gaza.

Speaking to reporters in Washington, Tammy Bruce confirmed that the U.S. has delivered large-scale food aid to the besieged enclave and is working to improve the broader humanitarian aid system to support civilians affected by the conflict.

“Our focus remains first and foremost on securing the release of hostages still held in Gaza,” Bruce said. “We have seen the videos released by Hamas showing hostages, and we remain deeply concerned for their safety.”

The U.S. continues to stress that Hamas “cannot be allowed to govern Gaza under any circumstances,” Bruce added, underscoring Washington’s longstanding position that the group, designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S., must be removed from power.

When asked about Israeli media reports suggesting that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is preparing for a full-scale reoccupation of Gaza with backing from Washington, Bruce declined to confirm or deny the reports.

“You’ll have to check with Tel Aviv for that,” she said. “Right now, our priority is to get the hostages out.”
