Bangladeshi Army Detains Major Sadiq over Militant training allegations
Dhaka – The Bangladeshi military has taken Major Sadiq into custody over allegations that he provided military training to members of the banned Awami League and its affiliated groups.
Brigadier General Nazim-ud-Doula, Director of Military Operations, confirmed the arrest during a press briefing held in Dhaka on Thursday. He stated, “We are aware of the matter. Major Sadiq is currently in military custody, and a thorough investigation is ongoing.”
He added that if the allegations are proven true, Major Sadiq will face action under military law.
During the same briefing, Brigadier Nazim also addressed the ongoing tensions in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT). He pointed out that several groups — including the UPDF and JSS — are involved in increasing their influence in the region and are linked to extortion activities.
“This isn’t a new issue,” he said, explaining that these groups have frequently been a source of conflict in the area.
