The upcoming Michael Jackson biopic finally gets a new release date as studio executives anticipate the film’s award prospects.
The biographical musical drama Michael, which stars Jaafar Jackson as his uncle, is now scheduled to release in cinemas on October 3, instead of April 2025.
This comes after Lionsgate studio executives were eyeing the film’s position as a potential awards season contender.
The film will chronicle the events of King of Pop’s life and career, beginning from his time with the Jackson 5 as a child to his final weeks before his death at the age of 50.
During his regal appearance at San Diego Comic-Con in July, Fuqua offered a rare glimpse into the film and explained that it was still in the editing process.
The director said at the time, “Why I wanted to make it is, Michael.”
Expressing his love for the pop superstar, King revealed Jackson’s influence on his life as he went on to add, “Michael was a big part of my life growing up, big influence on my career, an incredible artist – but he was a human being, and we’re exploring that. I’m very excited about it.”
