Punjab issues flood alert as more monsoon rains predicted

Punjab has issued a flood alert due to expected rises in water levels in the Chenab and Jhelum rivers and their smaller streams.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) warned that from July 30 to 31, there could be low to medium flooding in these rivers, and the Ravi River’s tributaries may also experience flooding.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia stated that water levels in the Sutlej River at Ganda Singh Wala are likely to increase within 24 hours. He also warned that heavy rains over the next 48 hours could lead to urban flooding in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Lahore.
