Chaos in Punjab Assembly: PTI and PML-N committee members slap each other
Lahore: The Punjab Assembly turned into a battleground on Monday when a heated exchange between PTI and PML-N committee members turned physical.
The tension began during the session when Khalid Nisar Dogar, a PTI committee member from PP-236, slapped Ehsan Riaz, a PML-N committee member from PP-136. Ehsan Riaz immediately retaliated with a slap of his own, triggering chaos in the assembly.
The incident caused unrest in the house, prompting Acting Speaker Zaheer Iqbal Channar to take swift action. Citing Rule 210, he suspended Khalid Nisar Dogar for 15 sessions, saying, “Is the Punjab Assembly a vegetable market or a kabaddi ground where members attack one another? We must protect the dignity of this house.”
Amid the growing tension, another opposition member, Sheikh Imtiaz Mehmood, was also suspended for 15 sessions due to his disruptive behavior during the fracas.
As emotions ran high, PML-N leader Rana Muhammad Arshad delivered a fiery speech, warning, “If they resort to hooliganism, we’ll respond with double force. If anyone dares to raise a hand on a member again, they won’t have a hand left.”
He went on to call certain PTI members “Modi’s team” and accused them of attacking the Corps Commander’s House, saying such individuals had no place in the assembly. His remarks triggered loud chanting from the opposition benches, eventually leading to a walkout in protest.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the breakdown of decorum in the provincial assembly and the widening rift between the two major political parties in Punjab.
