Sofía Vergara undergoes second knee surgery: “Round 2”

The Modern Family star revealed via Instagram on Friday that she recently underwent her second knee surgery, more than a year after her first.

The post featured two images: one of Vergara smiling in a hospital robe, and another showing her knee in a large grey brace and bandage.

“It’s done! Round 2,” she captioned the post, adding heart emojis, a prayer emoji, and the hashtag #knee.

While Vergara didn’t share specific details about the nature of the procedure or what prompted it, fans may recall that in April 2024, she opened up about a previous knee operation. At the time, she shared a playful Instagram Story featuring her then-boyfriend, orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman.

“If u ever get a [major] knee surgery make sure u Get a handsome doctor who will sleep with u that night…! Luv u,” she joked, alongside a photo of Saliman smiling in medical scrubs.

Though the couple split in January after more than a year of dating, Saliman was notably supportive during her first surgery.

The day after her latest procedure, Vergara brought some humor to her recovery by sharing a video of a quirky gift from fellow America’s Got Talent judge Howie Mandel: a pogo stick-like device that seemed more gag than practical.

Vergara has long been open with fans about her health journey. In 2022, in honor of World Cancer Day, she spoke candidly about being diagnosed with thyroid cancer at age 28.

“‘Cancer’ was not a word I expected to hear,” she wrote in a heartfelt Instagram post. “It was just a routine checkup. But the doctors found a lump in my throat, and that word became part of my story.”

She went on to describe undergoing radiation treatments and surgery, and ultimately becoming a cancer survivor. Alongside her message, Vergara included a throwback photo from her first acting class post-treatment, her neck scar visible.

“Seeing the scar on my throat reminds me of how blessed I felt that day — and every day since,” she wrote. “I’m lucky and grateful to be in a position to share my story and say: early prevention is so important!!”

From cancer survivor to repeat surgery patient, Sofía Vergara continues to inspire with her openness, resilience, and sense of humor—even in a hospital gown.
