
E-Taxi Scheme Launch Date Announced in Punjab
Punjab government is ready to introduce its e-taxi scheme in August. According to project 30 e-taxis have been reserved for women to promote their participation in the public transport sector.
According to Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan, With the help of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) for applications, an online portal is being developed.
Under this scheme nine companies have been shortlisted to supply electric taxis and these vehicles will be offered on interest-free and easy installments.
The official rollout of the program will start in two weeks, the minister said.
Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan added, o guarantee a smooth implementation, a business and financial model has also been prepared. 1,100 e-taxis will be made available to ride-hailing services, fleet owners, and individual drivers as part of the pilot project.

The Punjab government will pay the vehicles’ markup, token tax, and registration costs, according to official documents. One thousand taxis will be distributed to fleet owners, each of whom is required to buy ten or more vehicles.
The remaining 100 will be allocated on an individual basis, including a special allocation of 30 e-taxis for women. Selected suppliers will also establish service centers, spare parts facilities, and charging points across the province.
