Saudi Prince Waleed bin Khalid passes after two decades in coma

Riyadh: After nearly twenty years of remaining in a profound coma, Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Khalid bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has been officially declared dead by the Royal Court, marking the end of a poignant chapter in the history of the Saudi royal family.

The prince’s life took an unexpected turn in 2005 following a tragic accident that altered his destiny forever. At just 15 years old, during his military studies, Prince Alwaleed was involved in a severe car crash that resulted in a critical brain hemorrhage.

Despite the relentless efforts of medical teams from around the world, he remained in a coma, earning widespread attention and the nickname “Sleeping Prince” as he lay unresponsive at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh for over two decades.

Throughout his long convalescence, sporadic reports of minimal movements and faint responses kept the hope alive among family members and supporters, though medical experts maintained a cautious outlook on his recovery prospects. His condition became a symbol of resilience and hope, inspiring many to hold onto the possibility of a miraculous awakening.

Early Life:

Born in April 1990 in Riyadh, Prince Alwaleed was the eldest son of Prince Khalid bin Talal bin Abdulaziz, a prominent figure within the Saudi royal family. His father is the brother of renowned businessman Prince Alwaleed bin Talal and Princess Rima bint Talal, positioning the young prince within a lineage of influence and prominence.

His childhood was marked by privilege and promise, but his life was irrevocably changed by the accident that struck during his teenage years, casting a shadow over what might have been a future filled with leadership and achievement.
