KARACHI: In a deeply disturbing case of domestic violence, a 20-year-old newlywed bride named Shanti has been admitted to the hospital in critical condition after allegedly being brutally assaulted by her husband under the influence of drugs.
According to doctors, Shanti sustained severe internal injuries, with bite marks covering her entire body. The wounds reportedly extend to her large intestine, and she is currently on a ventilator, fighting for her life.
Medical officials revealed that Shanti has been under treatment for the past 21 days, initially at Lyari General Hospital, then at a private facility, and most recently at the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Institute of Trauma due to the severity of her condition.
“Her internal organs have been severely damaged. This is one of the worst cases we’ve seen,” said one of the attending doctors.
This case comes amid broader concerns about violence against women in Pakistan, many of which go unreported and remain hidden from public view.
Authorities have yet to release a detailed statement regarding any arrests or ongoing investigation.
The administration said that Shanti has been undergoing treatment at the hospital in critical condition for 21 days. The hospital administration says Shanti’s condition is critical, every effort is being made to save his life.
The victim’s mother said “My daughter was married to Ashok on June 15. Just two days later, on June 17, he brutally assaulted her. When her condition deteriorated, she was taken to the hospital.”
“She demand justice from the authorities. My daughter was brutally assaulted by her husband while he was intoxicated. If my daughter dies, then my son-in-law does not deserve the right to live either.”
