
KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: The mourning processions are being held across the country on the 9th of Muharram to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his loyal companions in the Battle of Karbala.
Shabeeh-e-Alam and Zuljanah processions are being taken out in cities nationwide, where mourners are paying tribute to the martyrs through azadari, noha khwani, and chest-beating rituals.
The major processions in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Multan, Quetta, and Peshawar are proceeding along designated routes under tight security arrangements to ensure the safety and solemnity of the observance.
The mobile phone and internet services were suspended in Karachi and various cities across the country under security measures for the 9th of Muharram-ul-Haram.
In view of security concerns, mobile phone services have been suspended in several areas, with sensitive zones completely sealed off. In Karachi, mobile service disruptions have already begun, and internet connectivity in parts of the city is also being affected.
Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjar, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, and Senator Waqar Mehdi participated in the central 9th Muharram procession in Karachi.
Speaking on the occasion, Home Minister Zia Lanjar emphasized that maintaining peace and security in the city remains the government’s top priority.
Mayor Murtaza Wahab stated that sanitation along the procession routes has been ensured, and proper lighting arrangements have been made on and around the designated pathways to facilitate mourners.
