Last Updated:
Femina Miss India 2024 Nikita Porwal embodies a blend of artistic passion, advocacy for animal welfare, and a vision of empowerment that keeps her firmly rooted in Indian values while reaching for global impact.
Hailing from the culturally rich city of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, Nikita Porwal’s upbringing was deeply influenced by the mythology and heritage surrounding her. Growing up, she developed a keen sense of inquiry, choosing to question and explore rather than follow tradition unquestioningly. Her early environment fostered a love for storytelling and a desire to connect with her spiritual roots, which would later fuel her career in the arts.
Nikita’s academic journey began at Carmel Convent Senior Secondary School and later took her to Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda for higher education. Her love for the stage has been a central part of her life, with over 60 plays to her credit. Notably, she wrote an extensive 250-page play titled Krishna Leela, demonstrating her dedication to the craft. Her curiosity and passion also extend to cinematography, where she continues to hone her skills. Her talent has even caught international attention, with her work showcased in global film festivals.
Recently, Nikita achieved a significant milestone by being crowned Femina Miss India 2024, marking yet another chapter in her journey of artistic and personal growth. In a candid chat, we understand her vision:
What is the one thing you feel every girl in India needs to develop or work on?
I believe every girl in India should have ‘financial independence’ and a sense of responsibility. When we are financially stable and earn our own money, we become more empowered and have greater opportunities to grow and maintain that empowerment.”
Becoming Miss India 2024, how do you see India of the 21st century now and how do you plan to represent India on the global stage?
India has developed significantly across multiple sectors, yet what makes it truly unique is its remarkable blend of “progress” and “rootedness.” It embodies the philosophy that “no matter how high we reach for the stars, our feet remain firmly on the ground.” This distinctive quality – where technological advancement harmoniously coexists with cultural values and traditions – keeps India’s heart and soul intact. This is precisely the aspect of India that I wish to represent on the world stage.
Your early exposure to theater in Ujjain shaped your passion for the stage, how have you applied the theater experience in your life and creative projects?
Being in theater helps us develop empathy when we portray characters different from ourselves, as we truly “put ourselves in their shoes.” Theater has transformed me as a person – staying connected to the stage makes you feel “alive.” Whether you’re working as the lead character or as part of the chorus, you gain valuable experiences. When playing the lead, you learn to “own the stage” and express your character’s emotions. Everything about theater is a journey of learning and excitement.
With a lead role in a feature film, how do you balance your love for stage acting and your growing interest in mastering the art of camerawork?
Acting is what I call my ‘passion,’ and I embrace every medium I perform in, living through each character I portray. Whether on stage or screen, I’m open to all opportunities to embody different personas. With more than 60 plays under my belt, I’m now eager to explore opportunities in film, where I can express myself through characters in front of the camera.”
How do you plan to use your platform as Femina Miss India to advocate for compassion and kindness towards animals, and what specific causes or initiatives do you hope to support?
Animal welfare is a cause very close to my heart. We as humans are not the ‘owners’ of Mother Earth – we are indeed its caretakers. It is our responsibility to look after the voiceless who rely on us for their survival.
I believe animal adoption is a way we can step forward in this mission. It breaks my heart to see animals suffering and losing their lives on the streets. Through the platform of Femina Miss India, I aim to advocate the motto of ‘Adopt, Don’t Shop’ because I firmly believe that street animals also deserve love, shelter, and renewed faith in humans.”
