Karachi: The Karachi Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Green Line will remain closed on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram, owing to security concerns, a city transportation official announced on Friday.

Additionally, seven of the ten routes of the Peoples Bus Service will be shut down on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, with five routes experiencing partial disruptions on the 8th.

The Karachi Traffic Police have issued a comprehensive traffic diversion plan for these days. Notably, MA Jinnah Road will be closed from Guru Mandir to Tower for security reasons, as per the official social media updates.

Alternative Routes:

From Nazimabad: Use Lasbela Chowk via Garden to reach Nishtar Park.

From Liaquatabad: Turn right at Teen Hatti and continue through Martin Road.
From Hassan Square to PP Chowrangi: Take Kashmir Road under the Jail Flyover, then proceed to Society Light Signal (Shahrah-e-Quaideen), or use the Jail Flyover to reach Teen Hatti and Nishtar Road via Lasbela Chowk.

Meanwhile, the federal government has declared July 5 and 6 (corresponding to 9th and 10th Muharram) as public holidays, as per a Cabinet Division notification, to observe Youm-e-Ashura.

Muharram is a sacred month in Islam, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his family at the Battle of Karbala. During this period, religious processions and majalis are held nationwide under strict security measures, with sermons delivered to large gatherings.
